A diesel engine is a type of power machinery that operates through internal combustion. It uses diesel as fuel and generates high temperatures through compressed air, causing the injected diesel to self ignite and pushing the piston to do work, converting the chemical energy of the fuel into mechanical energy.
Working principle
The working cycle of a diesel engine includes four processes: intake, compression, combustion expansion, and exhaust:
Intake process: The piston moves from top dead center to bottom dead center, the intake valve opens, and fresh air is drawn into the cylinder.
Compression process: The piston returns from bottom dead center to top dead center, the intake valve closes, and the air inside the cylinder is compressed, causing a sharp increase in pressure and temperature.
Combustion expansion process: At the end of the compression stroke, the fuel injector sprays diesel into the cylinder in a mist form. The diesel quickly self ignites in the high-temperature and high-pressure air, causing the gas to rapidly expand and push the piston downward to do external work.
Exhaust process: The piston returns from bottom dead center to top dead center, the exhaust valve opens, and the burned exhaust gas is discharged from the cylinder.Structural composition
A diesel engine is mainly composed of the following parts:
Crank connecting rod mechanism: including cylinder block, crankshaft, connecting rod, etc., responsible for converting the reciprocating motion of the piston into the rotational motion of the crankshaft.
Valve mechanism: including timing gears, camshafts, intake valves, exhaust valves, etc., responsible for controlling the intake and exhaust of the cylinder.
Fuel supply system: including fuel tank, fuel transfer pump, fuel injectors, etc., responsible for delivering diesel to the cylinder.
Lubrication system: including oil pan, oil pump, oil cooler, etc., responsible for providing lubricating oil to various moving parts of the diesel engine to reduce wear.
Cooling system: including radiator, water pump, thermostat, etc., responsible for dissipating the heat generated by the diesel engine and maintaining normal operating temperature.
